133 Were St Brighton VIC 3186 - (03) 9592 6500
Open Wed-Sun 12pm-3pm, 5:30pm-10pm
My good pal invited me for a buffet at J Surf & Turf in Brighton last night (just a few hours ago, actually). We got lost for a while but managed to find our way eventually.
[For the geeks, all pics are with the Zuiko 14-35 without flash, since the ambient light was more than sufficient for this purpose]
The oysters are pre-ordered when you book, but as soon as you sit down at the table, you pick some other dishes from the menu.
And the oysters arrive at the table.. all 2 dozen of them.
Squeezing the lemons over the oysters
The oysters are really fresh. They cost 10 bucks for half a dozen in our local supermarkets.
Next is the shashimi /sushi platter. I must say the sushi could taste better, so we didn't order it again.
Tempura prawns, lovingly coated in batter and deep fried until its light and crispy.
Sashimi - fresh, juicy and marvellous. I haven't had any in the past one year or more !
Okonomiyaki - octopus balls. There wasn't much of an octopus taste though.
Now this is a first. Grilled egg plant
The aftermath of the oysters.
Sashimi round 2
Udon (japanese eel) round 1
Beef with salad. A unique taste, but its good.
Gleefully digging into the food
Tempura round 2
Udon round 2
Japanese tofu. Didn't really leave an impression on me but we finished it anyway.
Japanese potato cake. Something like hash browns, but sweeter.
The last dish - Shashimi round 3 !
You can almost savour the freshness of the shashimi. Its lovely!
For dessert, some ice cream, fruits and sweets.
A meal well worth it. No more shashimi and tempura for a year for me... :)
Laters.
