Between apples and oranges

For decades, Melbourne University has used Wilson Hall as the venue of their graduation events. Each faculty will have their own separate day to graduate, so the hall would probably be used at least 40 times for graduation purposes at the end of the year.

RMIT has instead chosen the Etihad Stadium (formerly Telstra Dome) as the venue for their graduates.

There are at least 3000 graduates in the stadium, and adding their guests makes that at least 15,000 in the stadium alone. There's a rotating podium in the center where the University big shots and PhD students sit. There are also 13 separate mini podiums where graduates receive their certs. One of my friends who graduated from Melbourne Uni said her parents would be flabbergasted if they witnessed this occasion. Aside from the stuffy atmosphere, expensive stadium snacks / drinks and a 1.5 hours of semi-fast classical music, its a pretty interesting occasion to witness.

Cheers.
